Collaboratory encourages all campuses to authenticate into Collaboratory via their institutional SSO (Single Sign-On).
SSO is a property of identity and access management that enables users
to securely log into Collaboratory by way of their institution's central authentication system, using their designated institutional email/username and password.
SSO is setup during an institution's onboarding. The Collaboratory support team coordinates with the institution's SSO contact(s) to request the necessary attributes to ensure a successful SSO connection.
NOTE: If a campus selects not to connect SSO to their Collaboratory portal, users must create accounts via Collaboratory's native authentication protocols.
Collaboratory's SSO Basics:
- Collaboratory embraces Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML 2.0)
- SSO set up takes approximately 2 weeks
- Collaboratory does not store passwords locally for institutions that utilize SSO.
- SSO set up requests the following, minimal attributes in order to reliably identify individuals logging in and assign them appropriate permissions in Collaboratory: - EduPersonPrincipalName
- Email
- givenName
- surname
- eduPersonAffiliation

- Collaboratory is a member of the InCommon Federation to assist with secure, seamless SSO setup
