Only Administrators can update user Roles. Contact your Collaboratory Administrator for more information or to request a different role.

A member's relationship to a Collaboratory institution can be faculty, staff, or student. Relationships help determine what features are available for a user, along with their Role. The key relationship-based features are described below:

Faculty/Staff

  • Invite a Proxy: Invite an individual to complete the activity form. The activity will come back to you for approval once it's completed and submitted.
  • Be the Owner: The Activity will be yours. You'll have the ability to edit, save, and submit the activity for approval by a portal moderator.
  • Be the Proxy: The activity will be submitted to the individual once you complete the form.
  • As a faculty or staff member you can claim ownership of content that has been proxied for you.

Student/No Relationship

  • Be the Proxy: The activity will be submitted to the individual once you complete the form.
  • Not permitted to own activities.
  • Not able to invite a faculty, staff, or student to be a proxy
  • A proxy cannot create activities on the behalf of a user with a student relationship or no relationship.

Some members may not have a relationship associated with their account. This is because some members, like alumni, may still be able to authenticate with their institution. If a member's institutional credentials are still active, they will be able to authenticate with their institution's Collaboratory via SSO. However, members with no relationship will have limited rights and can only Be the Proxy.

Updating your Relationship

If you log into Collaboratory through your campus server (SSO) using your institutional credentials, then your relationship(s) is identified via that authentication process and cannot be manually changed. If your relationship needs to be changed, you must work with your institution's IT department.

If your Collaboratory uses the manual registration process, then members can update their relationship via their Institutional Profile.

Step 1: Navigate to Institutional Profile

  1. To access your profile, select My Account from the top right corner of the header.
  2. Select Institutional Profile

Step 2: Update your Relationship

  1. Select Actions | Edit Profile.
  2. Update your relationship as appropriate under Identity.
  3. Select Update at the bottom of your profile to save your selection.
